The Google Maps 3-Pack, Explained for Lawyers

The "3-pack" is the single most valuable piece of real estate in local search for law firms. Here's what it is and why it matters so much.

The 3-pack: three local listings shown above the regular results.

What the 3-pack is

When someone searches a local query like "personal injury lawyer near me," Google shows three business listings with a map at the top of the results, above the regular blue links. That's the local pack, or 3-pack.

Why it dominates legal searches

Most legal searches are local and urgent. The caller wants someone nearby, well-reviewed and visible right now, and the 3-pack gives them exactly that, so the bulk of clicks and calls go to those three firms.

How firms get in

The same three signals decide it: relevance (profile and categories), distance (proximity to the searcher) and prominence (reviews, citations, authority). Working those deliberately is how a firm climbs into, and holds, the pack.
